Had such a great dinner at Modan. The ambience is super chic and really comfortable. Diego took amazing care of us.. gave the best food and drink recs and honestly didn’t miss. We started with the king salmon carpaccio and roasted cauliflower, both so good. Then got the tuna trio, firecracker roll, and the chef’s dry-aged sushi selection… everything was fresh and insanely flavorful. For drinks, we tried the Totoro’s Garden.. cucumber-forward, super refreshing, and tasted amazing. Ended with the lava cake, absolutely outstanding. Already planning to go back for the omakase. 10/10 experience.

Amazing ambiance and service! The restaurant itself is beautiful, great vibes for a date or special occasion. However, the Japanese food was decent, not the best, didn't taste authentic, but more like americanized Japanese fare. You don't get a good bang for your buck either, as portion sizes are small. The chicken karaage is usually my favorite appetizer to order at Japanese restaurants, but the portion sizes here much too small, and the karaage did have a good crisp to it. But they do give a considerable amount of dipping sauce to go with it. The miso soup also had a watered down taste, the miso flavor was not as strong or bold, although I did like the tofu pieces in the soup! The positives were definitely their cocktails and desserts, I enjoyed the Tanuki Tail cocktail and their Yuzu sorbet and Matcha Cheesecake! I would mostly just come back just for their bar, dessert, and overall vibes.

I usually search and read reviews before I visit the restaurant. I was very satisfied with omakase experience. Handcrafted sushi just melted in mouth in second. It was my birthday dinner with my husband and my boy who's 10 years old starting to eating sushi, and he is a quite picky eater but he loves Modan Restaurant food. Staffs were very attentive and friendly. I will definitely comeback try other food in the future. I highly recommend you must try omakase and tasty cocktails! Everything was perfect except when we check out didn't waive extra parking fees.

We ordered the tasting experience menu. Everything was delicious, unique, and beautifully presented. We chose it for a special day and were very happy with our choice. If you are looking for a more refined, modern, and distinctive Far Japanese dining experience, I definitely recommend it.

It is our 4 year anniversary. We went to Modan in McLean for their omakase experience and it was a major letdown, especially considering the price. At $150 per person, expectations are naturally high. Unfortunately, the meal fell far short of what an omakase at this level should deliver. The courses were very minimal, basic nigiri, and the overall progression felt underwhelming and uninspired. Flavor-wise, the food was below average. Nothing was memorable, refined, or surprising, which is disappointing given how much care and precision omakase is supposed to represent. The fish did not stand out in quality, and the bites lacked depth, balance, and creativity. For the cost, we expected exceptional sourcing, technique, and flavor…none of which were present. To be fair, the service and staff were excellent. Everyone was polite, attentive, and clearly doing their best to provide a positive experience. Unfortunately, strong service alone cannot justify the price when the food itself does not deliver. Overall, the experience felt significantly overpriced for what was served. There are many other places in the area that offer far better omakase or sushi experiences at this price point or less. Based on our visit, I would not recommend Modan for omakase.
